by on 18/05/2014

kodak moment “Surround yourself with people who really want you to succeed”

The year is 1996.

The company is Kodak.

This is their position in the market.

… Market Capitalization $28 Billion.

… Employees 140,000

Fast forward to 2012.

The company is Kodak

… Market Capitalization: Bankrupt

… Employees 17000

Kodak was wiped out by the revolution in digital camera.

What is even more painful is that Kodak invented digital camera. (Steven Sasson of Eastman Kodak)

Talk about ignoring the goldmine in your back yard.

But at 3.6kg and had only 0.01 megapixels the first digital camera did not look like something that is going to revolutionize the world.

Great opportunities first present themselves this way.

Kodak, like most of us was too close to their business.

They could not see what will eventually revolutionize photography, but also wipe the company out.

The lesson.

Surround yourself with a team that can see possibilities beyond what you can see.
