The word genius is always associated with Albert Einstein. His contribution to this world is enormous. The theory of relativity, relativistic cosmology, the prediction of the deflection of light by gravity, the quantum theory of atomic motion in solids, the zero-point energy concept, and the quantum theory of a monatomic gas which predicted Bose–Einstein condensation, are some of the notable contributions of this Nobel prize wining scientist.
Einstein was also a great philosopher. Although I cannot find any record of him being in business, there is so much businesses can learn from this genius. What follows is my interpretation of Einstein’s quotes (for business!).
“Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius — and a lot of courage — to move in the opposite direction.”
Don’t go along with the crowd. Shine your value like no one in your industry can. Keep things simple. Let your authenticity become the attraction. Being authentic means showing up and letting yourself be seen as you are. This takes courage
“I never think of the future. It comes soon enough.”
All the planning and preparation cannot replace the action you take NOW. Now is where you and your business has power. Your productivity will soar when you purposefully act NOW. NOW is the only precious moment you have. Don’t waste it on procrastination and doing trivial tasks.
“Sometimes one pays most for the things one gets for nothing.”
When you don’t value something it rarely adds value to us. Invest time and money to grow your business. How can you expect others to value what you offer when you cannot value what others have to offer?
“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.”
Unless mistakes are made learning rarely happens. Whether you learn from your mistakes or from other peoples mistakes don’t be afraid of making mistakes. Mistakes masks the true path to success. Unless you step on these mistakes the true path to success will not reveal itself.
“Technological progress is like an axe in the hands of a pathological criminal.”
Technology is there to aid us to achieve our goals. It is a tool and nothing more. Hiding behind technology and allowing the technology to carry us is a dangerous game.
“We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”
As a business coach, part of my job is to help my clients see things differently. When we are able to see things differently, new paths, different options open up for growth. By not thinking differently, we tend to focus on fixing the wrong problem.
“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.”
Thinking outside the box may be a popular cliche, but not often practiced. Question your assumptions about everything. Question you assumptions about your client base. Question your assumption about the reason why they bought. Question the assumptions that you have about your marketplace because I can guarantee you that the reasons that your marketplace were doing business with you or your competitors or not doing business with you and your competitors two years is distinctly different today.
“In order to form an immaculate member of a flock of sheep one must, above all, be a sheep.”
This quote reminds us to stand out. Business in competitive. The business climate is harsh. In choosing to be an immaculate member of the flock, you get lost in the sea with the rest.Let the best side of you and your business shine. Become a beacon that attracts the right people.
“Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves.”
Being busy is will hinder your success. Busy usually means scattered attention, multi-tasking, opportunistic thinking (as opposed to strategic thinking)and so on. Instead focus on things that matter. Things that make a difference.
“Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.”
When you focus on being a person of adding value, success will naturally follow. When we strategise our actions to focus on making the highest possible impact – a shift happens. We stop ‘needing’ anything from any one. Our mindset transmits “giving” signals instead of “I want to sell you something and I want your money” signals. We stop chasing customers. Those who value us will be attracted to us.
