Half way through the operation, Dr McCoy is stuck. He realizes that he does not have the expertise to finish it.
Because Spock’s brain was half integrated, he could now talk Dr. McCoy through the rest of the operation.
Yes, Spock is giving instructions to Dr McCoy how to connect his own brain.
I know. It is one of the goofiest episodes 🙂
