“He who sees a need and waits to be asked for help is as unkind as if he had refused it.” ― Dante Alighieri
I get many inquiries from business owners about coaching.
They are asking for help.
In my early days as a coach, I was delighted when I was asked for help.
You would imagine that someone asking for help will be an ideal candidate for coaching.
But what I have experienced is very different.
Asking for help and open to receiving help are two different things.
When I am invited in to help, the client’s perception is that the coach is going to help the business.
But what is the business?
It is the people, headed by the owner that makes up the business.
The people in the business make the difference.
So when the owner who asked for help, is not open to receiving help – progress does NOT happen.
But the owner does not do this intentionally.
During the coaching process new thoughts, ideas and strategies evolve.
When the owner is not open to receive, these new thoughts, ideas and strategies do not get actioned.
Why?
Because it has not come from them. Taking ownership terrifies them. They are terrified that what they already ‘know’ could perturbed by the new stuff – not coming from them.
- Open to receiving means being able declare vulnerability
- Open to receiving means parking the ego.
- Open to receiving means letting go of what they know
- Open to receiving means letting your guard down and own others ideas that make sense.
Are you open to receiving help?
