- Listening -The ability to listen to your colleagues, clients and customers is a rare skill. Listening is not the same as hearing. Active listening skill – making a conscious effort to understand the complete message being sent. When the other person feels understood – magic – happens.
- Smiling -A heartfelt smile can soften our reptilian brain.
When you are a stranger to another person, their reptilian brain works fast to protect them from potential dangers from a stranger. A beautiful smile can put this reptilian brain to sleep.
- Saying ‘Thank You‘ -A genuine ‘thank you’ is rare. Thank you for doing the job they were supposed to do. Thank you for paying attention. Then you for paying bills on time. Thank you for being a client. Thank you for just being there. Thank you for the referral.
- Following Up -Following up after a meeting, lunch, dinner, social occasion does not happen often. Most of us look for ‘instant’ relationships and if we can’t form one instantly with our prospects we move on to the next one and so on.
- Patience – “Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.” – John Quincy Adams. We live in an instant results generation, where we want to get things done yesterday. We demand our employees produce immediate results: we are disappointed if our marketing did not produce immediate customers: We have no patience to ‘test’ strategies that work.
- Focus – “Always remember, your focus determines your reality.” – Qui-Gon to Anakin, Star Wars Episode I. Our focus determines our reality. Laser sharp focus to get things done will propel anyone to success. Focus on your goals – Focus on NOW.
