I was facilitating the Team Development Day for a client of mine.
The MD’s aim for the day was to get his team working towards the common goal rather than work as a collection of individuals. By the end of the event – the team – agreed to a list of behavior changes.
The behavior changes agreed by the team are a great source of learning. If you are managing a team or planning to build a team, treat these lessons as check lists. They can add tremendous value to you, your business and your team.
- Although most of the team were aware of the vision for the business, when the Leader explained the vision – with passion – there was a greater buy-in.
- The team wanted to express their frustrations – but were concerned by the repercussions. As a results a "Safe environment" to express frustrations are set up.
- In addition a structured communication process has been set up. This includes, daily am/pm huddles, weekly 1-1 sessions.
- The team also agreed to foster a Feed back based culture as opposed to a blame based culture .
- The team agreed to run planned fun events.
- The understanding that change can be an inch by inch process rather than a massive event.
- Learning to say thank you, well done to each other more often.
I hope this has been useful. Please feel free to ask any questions or leave your comments below.
Until next time…
