There were several ‘reasons why’ they felt depleted.
The underlying cause was very interesting. They have had a great start to 2009 (…yes you are reading it correctly…2009) (if I remember correctly 25% of the annual increase in turnover already in the bag!).
And this is the exact reason for the lack of energy. The increase in business has expelled the team out of their comfort zone.
They felt exposed because now they have to deliver!
This has highlighted 2 key issues with growth!
1. Time: As a professional service firm, when the business grows, demand on the Director’s time grows exponentially. This means the directors have to completely review their ‘default diary’
2. Systems: The existing system is starting to buckle under growth. Obviously the systems needs to be reviewed.
Lesson from this coaching session:
Whether the business is growing or not, how the business and the team spend their TIME and how the SYSTEM delivers the result must be constantly reviewed.
