Don’t guess – measure your progress!

by on 16/08/2010

A client of mine owns few businesses. One is extremely profitable and others are in start up phase. We both knew the successful one was subsidising the start ups. As part of our regular coaching session we wanted to measure the profitability of each business. Once my client saw in black and white the losses one of the start-up was sustaining – he was in big shock.

I am sure he knew the business concerned was losing money. Until he saw it in black and white, his mind was making up its own figures and protecting him from seeing the truth.

Lesson: Don’t pretend you know everything in your business. Track your businesses real progress by measuring your Key Performance Indicators regularly.
