I was asked the difference between a Business Coach and a Non-Executive director (NXD).
Here is my take.
It is the norm when looking for a NXD to go for a specialist. You want a specialist for financial management get a NXD who specialises in Finance. If your organisation is needs an IT expertise get a NXD who specialises in IT. NXD’s also bring in years of experience and expertise and can introduce valuable contacts.
Here is what a Business Coach can do:
- Business Coach is detached. So he/she can help you see wood from the tree. There are times a simple ‘why are you doing this?’ question can bring about profound change.
- Business Coach can help detect blind spots – hidden gold – because he/she is always looking at the big piture. This alone is worth is its weight in platinum
- Business Coach brings accountability: This has incredible power. When the board/team is held accountable to actions and results and growth becomes exponential.
- Business Coach is trained to be a Business Success expert.
- Business Coach is also an expert in destroying comfort zones. Because all our greatest opportunities lie outside our comfort zone, coach can bring us towards our success faster.
- Business Coach brings inspiraton: An inspired team can get to its destination faster.
- Business Coach can bring out a higher level of performance than you can by your self.
- Business Coach can bring cutting edge business strategies
- Business Coach’s approach is rigorous, strategic, structured, and intentional.
- Business Coach can quickly (and painlessly) resolve any limiting beliefs and paradigms that you might bring from the past, that are keeping you from your next level of business growth and expansion.
Non-Executive director brings the best from outside. Business Coach brings out the best from within.
They both add value and are NOT mutually exclusive.
